The technology of the E-beam combined with the magnetron to produce surface alloys has been used successfully in the treatment of molds for industrial production.

Work was done to solve the problem of the plastic sticking to the surfaces of the molds. Untreated molds need to be used with a lubricant, to facilitate the removal of the parts, and also need to be cleaned every hour, thus stopping production.

With a 2 microns thick Chromium based surface alloy the mold can work for 8 hours without stopping production to clean it and does not need a lubricant.

More work was done on cast iron molds for the production of glass parts. In this case the problem is that the molds have a low resistance to the thermomecanical load and after a while develop cracks.

Again, the problem was greatly reduced by applying a thin Chromium based surface alloy to the surface of the mold.
